Sconce Lighting
When it comes to interior decorating, lighting is one of the most important things to take into account. The amount and quality of light that enters a room can have a great influence on its look.
For example, sunlight, which is considered the best kind of light that there is, can really liven a room and make it look bigger than it is. It’s also the best kind of light for looking the real colors of objects.
However, it is not the only type of light and it doesn’t apply to all situations. One type of lighting that is common in some houses is sconce lighting.
Sconce lighting can be electrical or from candles, and each type is slightly different.
Electrical sconce lightning is commonly used for halls or as complement of another light source. Unlike most lamps, it shoots its light upwards. There are two purposes of electrical sconce lighting. First of all, it illuminates a hall or a space by reflecting the collective light of several sconces on the ceiling, thus avoiding direct light on the eyes of the persons. Secondly, it offers some decoration in an otherwise dull hall.
Candle sconce lighting is a bit different. It’s not meant for illuminating a room and there should always be a main source of lighting aside from the candle sconces. The purpose of candle sconce lighting is to create a relaxing and soothing atmosphere. It is great for romantic evenings, specially if the candles are aromatized. It is also used in events where a calm atmosphere is called for.
Both of these types of sconce lighting have their advantages and disadvantages.
Electrical sconce lighting has the advantage that it’s easy to turn on and off and it is very reliable. On the other hand, it can be a bit difficult to install, since it requires to be wired to the electrical system of the house. This is not an easy job and if you don’t have experience working with electricity, then it’s better to hire a professional. Some sconces come with a cord so that you can plug it into a socket. However, the cord really looks out of place and more often than not, it has to be hidden somehow.
On the other hand, candle sconce lighting is much easier to install since it doesn’t depend on the location of wiring and sockets. It can even be glued with non permanent glue to the walls and then changed from location later. And of course, it doesn’t increase electricity bills. However, as with anything that involves fire, you need to keep some safety precautions when using it, such as never leaving it unattended, and keeping it our of children’s reach.
