Hurricane Candle Wall Sconces

A lot of times, tried and true items of old come back or become more efficient with the development of new technologies and materials.

Wall sconces are a good example of this. When invented at first, they were used to hold torches and then candles on walls, being the only way to light the interiors of houses and buildings at night. They were very common for centuries, until the discovery of electricity and electrical light, when they rapidly fell out of favor.

A few decades later, sconces made a comeback. They were once again used in houses as light sources, although now they were looked for because of how they looked and how well they decorated interiors. Today, they are manufactured in literally dozens of models and forms, appealing to as many different tastes and house styles as possible.

They are also quite different in their composition. Unlike the past, they come in several different materials, both natural and synthetic. They are commonly powered with electricity and emit light through one or more light bulbs. However, many people still love the classic style of candle sconces.

But even candle sconces have been benefited from technology advancements, resulting in the so called hurricane candle wall sconces. Hurricane candle wall sconces have a glass container that protects the candle. This glass container prevents sparks or wax from falling off the sconce and onto people or furniture below.

However, the thing that really sets hurricane candle wall sconces from the rest is the type of glass. Hurricane candle wall sconces’ glass is actually laminated glass, which has an interlayer that prevents the glass breaking into small pieces when shattered. Laminated glass is commonly used in exterior applications in places where the weather can get so extreme that it can break the glass, and therefore the nickname “hurricane.”

Because of its properties, hurricane candle wall sconces are a favorite of homes with children. They offer an extra layer of safety in case children accidentally break hurricane candle wall sconces with a ball or other object. Of course, the glass would have to be replaced, but it won’t fall down on children or leave pieces on the floor that could cut the children. In addition, hurricane candle wall sconces will usually keep the wax of the candle inside the shattered glass, avoiding risk or burns or fire.

Lastly, hurricane candle wall sconces aren’t really much more expensive than regular candle wall sconces. And with the extra protection they give, they are worth the extra dollars.
