Candle Wall Sconce
A candle wall sconce is a light fixture that is attached to a wall, as opposed to being attached to the ceiling, which is the case of most light fixtures today. The candle wall sconce was invented centuries ago, and was one of the first objects used to have light at night. While wall sconces also used to use torches, candles started to replace them, as they burned slower and in a more controlled way, creating much less accidental fires.
The reason that they were installed on walls is that this made it much easier to light them. In fact, light sources on the ceiling were bothersome and difficult to light, and only the rich and powerful could afford to have them. It wasn’t until the discovery of electricity and its use as a light source that candle wall sconces started to lose popularity.
Today, a candle wall sconce has a different role. It is not more an object of decoration and mood setting than a light source. There is something about the small flame that makes us feel at ease and relaxed. For example, a candle wall sconce is much better than a lamp to get a romantic mood.
It is also very easy to install a candle wall sconce. Unlike sconces what use electricity, a candle wall sconce doesn’t require extra wiring and switches, and it can be installed in any part of a wall, regardless of whether wires run behind it or not. Some people use bolts, screws or nails to install them. Others use glue. There are even some types of glue that aren’t permanent, so you can later change the sconce to a different place if you want to.
Of course, pay attention to the location of the candle wall sconce to avoid accidents and fire. First of all, a candle wall sconce should be high enough that children can’t reach it. As with any candle or fire source in your house, always be present when it is lit and make sure that it’s completely off before you leave. Don’t place easily flammable objects right under the sconce either. In fact, it is better if you get the type what has a glass container for the candle. That way, sparks won’t be able to fly away, and wind and air currents can’t blow the candle off, so it’s a double benefit.
Finally, make sure that the sensitivity of any fire alarms in your house isn’t easily activated by a candle wall sconce. The candle doesn’t give much more smoke or heat than lighting a cigarette, so as long as it’s not directly under a fire alarm, it should be fine.
