Candle Sconces

Sconces are a good way to add light to a room and at the same time decorate an otherwise boring wall. Sconces have been around for a long time, and were one of the first ways to set a permanent source of light in a room. Since they used candles or some type of fuel in order to produce a small, controlled fire that will light the rooms, it was much easier to put them on walls.

Nowadays, lighting is done through lamps and light bulbs on the ceiling. Reaching out to light them is not a problem because we now use electricity and turn them on from a switch on a wall. Sconces as a permanent source of light aren’t really used anymore.

Nevertheless, there’s still something about the image that a sconce gives that remains a classic. That’s why sconces never disappeared. Now, while still being able to light a room, sconces aren’t used mostly for decoration, in addition to their lighting capabilities.

While they look great with the proper setting, there is one disadvantage of installing scones. They need to somehow get to the electricity wiring of the house. That can sometimes be difficult or impossible, depending on the composition of the walls and the way the wires run through the house.

One way to solve this problem is by installing candle sconces. Candle sconces don’t need electricity, and therefore aren’t limited by the wiring of the house when it comes to their placement.

Of course, candle sconces won’t light a room as efficiently as bulb sconces or light bulbs in the ceiling, but then again, that isn’t the reason why candle sconces are installed. Candle sconces are installed mainly for the touch of class and tradition that they give.

In fact, since they are meant for decoration mostly, they can be used to frame or complement other objects in the house. For example, if you have a family portrait on a wall, you can install two candle sconces on each side of it, to make some sort of frame that will mark the importance of the portrait. If you have a chimney, setting two candle sconces above and to each side of it will enhance the whole look of the setting.

Lastly, remember to always take safety into account when using candle sconces. Always keep a fire extinguisher nearby (preferably out of sight, for example, hidden in the kitchen). And make sure that the candles won’t trigger any fire alarms right above them. You don’t want to ruin a romantic evening just because the candle triggered the water sprinklers right above you, do you?
