Interior Paint
There are many good reasons to paint using interior paint. The most obvious reason is because there is nothing covering a wall, either newly built or with fresh drywall. In this case you are applying a fresh color on an unfinished wall. The best method to do this is to do a single coat of primer to help the paint go on smoothly. It doesn’t take very many coats to finish a surface like this.
A second reason is if you have recently removed wallpaper, or are applying a new color over an existing color. When you remove the wallpaper you need to make sure that you completely remove all adhesive with a mixture designed for the purpose. It is very important to the end product that you properly clean the wall before you start priming it. There are specialized cleaners meant for this purpose, don’t use anything that could damage the wall. When you are done cleaning the wall apply a thick layer of primer. It may be necessary to do multiple layers of primer to completely smooth out the wall.
A primer is a special paint designed to make the end color look its best. Sometimes there are special primers that work best with certain paints. You may have the option to tint the primer to the color of your paint, however this isn’t always best. If you plan to paint the whole house you will want a neutral paint color so that you can use it over and over. There are specialized primers for special situations. There are stain covering primers, primers to help you if you have to patch a wall, and even primers to cover up oil and lead based paints. The important thing to do with primer is to make sure that you make the wall a smooth single neutral color. Then when the time comes to paint you won’t have to do as many layers.
Another reason that you would want to paint is to cover stains or if you are doing a patch job on a wall. There are two ways to approach this problem. First you can completely repaint the whole wall and even the whole room if necessary. That option is more expensive but a thousand times easier than the other option. The second option is to only paint the problem area. The reason this is such a headache is because of trying to match paint. Now if you still have the paint you used in that room handy, then its much simpler. The reason that paint is so hard to match is that every batch of paint is different. If this wall was painted long ago, it may be impossible to find the paint you need.
