Interior Paint Swatches
What is the hardest thing about doing your own interior painting? For some it is all the preparation with the sanding and the primer and the taping and the drop cloths. For others it’s the clean up. But ranking right up there would have to be the insecurity you go through in trying to pick the right color. That anxiety can become such a trial that many people simply give up and repaint the room the same color it already is. This is a shame because when you decide to paint a room, that is a great time to make a change in your life and make the room look interesting and fun all over again.
The first step in finding the right color for the room will probably be to narrow it down to a few selections. There are some colors you will probably never use like black and lime green. For the most part you will probably go with a pastel color that is soothing and easy to match to the furniture you have in mind for the room. The opinions of everybody who lives in the house do count but not as much as the need for the color to fit in with the rest of the items in the room.
So after you look at the furniture, the paintings and other colors you will coordinate to, you have a range. But you still are taking a chance if you just go buy paint in that general color range. One solution is to go to the paint store and pick up a number of color swatches. In most of the major hardware stores, you can go to the paint section and find dozens of small cards with paint color variations on them to take home and hold up to the wall to see if that might be a good match.
It is difficult to imagine a certain color swatch filling that entire room. But the good of these swatches is you can hold them right next to the furniture, down by the carpet or next to the artwork to see if you can find the tie in colors you want before you begin to actually paint the walls. In some cases you might find two or three color swatches that are close but you want something in between the two. That is not a problem because if you just take the swatches back to the hardware store, the expert who mixes paint can hit the color you want exactly.
Of course the expensive route is to hire an interior decorator. But when it comes right down to it, even a decorator is just going to pull out the same swatches and engage you in making the decision. So why not save the money and get the swatches yourself rather than get another contractor in on the act. You will be glad you did.
